Applications

The MT-1B is widely used in industries that require accurate flaw detection, such as:

  • Aerospace: Aircraft manufacturing and maintenance
  • Oil & Gas: Pipeline and valve inspections
  • Automotive & Machinery: Vehicle parts, gears, bearings, and high-strength bolts
  • Shipbuilding & Marine: Anchor chains, hull structures, and welded components
  • Energy & Power: Boilers, turbines, and pressure vessels
  • Railway & Bridges: Structural assessments and welding quality checks
  • Manufacturing & Engineering: Forged components, crankshafts, and high-stress parts

Working Principle

The MT-1B operates by generating a high-intensity magnetic field around the workpiece. If defects such as cracks or slag inclusions exist, they disrupt the magnetic flux, creating leakage fields. When magnetic powder (typically iron oxide) is applied, it accumulates at the defect location, forming visible traces. This allows inspectors to assess the position, size, shape, and severity of the flaw under proper lighting conditions.

Operating Conditions

  • Operating Temperature: -10°C to +40°C
  • Storage Temperature: -20°C to +70°C
  • Relative Humidity: ≤ 80%
  • Environment: Should be free from strong vibrations, magnetic interference, corrosive substances, and heavy dust.

Operating Instructions & Precautions

  1. Setup & Connection: Connect the detector to the power source and switch it on. Adjust the polar distance according to the workpiece size.
  2. Applying Magnetic Powder: For dry powder detection, evenly spread the powder on the workpiece.
  3. Flaw Detection: Move the electromagnetic yoke at 40mm/s, ensuring proper contact with the workpiece.
  4. Overlap Considerations: Ensure overlapping scans are less than 25mm to prevent missing defects.
  5. Assessing Defects: If an indication appears, remove excess powder and verify the flaw. If unclear, clean and retest the surface.
  6. Image Capture & Reporting: If a defect is confirmed, capture the image and generate a test report.

Maintenance & Care

  • Regular Cleaning: Use a soft cloth to clean the device and remove oil and dust after each use.
  • Storage Precautions: Keep the device in a dry, ventilated area and avoid exposure to strong vibrations.
  • Battery Maintenance: Charge the device every three months if unused for an extended period to prevent battery degradation.
  • Button Sensitivity: Do not apply excessive force when pressing buttons, and avoid using metal objects.
  • Safe Rebooting: Wait at least 5 seconds after shutting down before restarting the device.
