Product Overview

The Mitech MDW-ZJ MDW-ZJ6x, MDW-ZJ10x, MDW-ZJ15x, MDW-ZJ20x is a state-of-the-art digital Webster hardness tester designed for rapid, non-destructive hardness testing of aluminum and aluminum alloy workpieces. Engineered for accuracy and ease of use, this portable device is equipped with a built-in micro electric motor that automates the indentation process, minimizing operator fatigue and maximizing testing efficiency with a single button press.

Its advanced design incorporates a digital display for easy reading, an indenter protection mechanism to prevent misoperation, and a tool-free calibration system that ensures measurement accuracy over time. Ideal for production environments, quality inspection stations, and acceptance checks, the MDW-ZJ is an essential tool for improving product quality, reducing costs, and boosting production reliability.

Key Features

  • Fast On-Site Testing: Perform quick and reliable hardness tests without damaging the workpiece—perfect for aluminum production lines.

  • One-Key Automatic Measurement: Simplified operation at the touch of a button, eliminating manual force application.

  • Digital Display: Clear, high-contrast screen for quick and precise reading of hardness values.

  • Built-In Micro Motor: Applies consistent pressure automatically, ensuring repeatable and accurate results.

  • Indenter Protection System: Minimizes operator errors and extends instrument life.

  • Tool-Free Calibration: Allows easy calibration without disassembly, reducing downtime.

  • Adjustable Anvil Gap: Accommodates workpieces of various thicknesses for flexible usage.

  • Pre-Pressing System: Ensures perpendicular contact between the indenter and test surface, eliminating misalignment errors.

  • Portable Design: Lightweight and compact, ideal for mobile inspection tasks.

Applications

  • Heat Treatment Verification: Determine whether components have undergone proper heat treatment processes.

  • Material Consistency Check: Detect improper or inconsistent alloy compositions in aluminum parts.

  • Oversized Workpiece Testing: Evaluate hardness of parts that are too large or heavy for benchtop machines.

  • Factory Quality Control: Widely used in aluminum production plants during processing and final inspection.

  • Construction & Engineering Projects: Trusted by manufacturers of doors, windows, and curtain walls for project acceptance and compliance checks.

  • Supervisory & Inspection Departments: Suitable for government and industrial quality control agencies.

Working Principle

The MDW-ZJ operates based on the indentation principle. A controlled force is applied to the workpiece via an indenter. The depth or size of the indentation inversely indicates the material’s hardness. The result is shown as a Webster Hardness (HW) value:

  • 16 HW indicates a standard level of hardness.

  • If the needle points to 20, the material is too hard for the range.

  • If the needle stays at 0, the material is too soft.

The result can also be converted into other hardness scales such as HV or HR as needed.

Operation Guidelines

  1. Power On: Press and hold the switch for 1 second until the red indicator light appears.

  2. Position the Workpiece: Insert the sample between the anvil and pre-pressing device.

  3. Automatic Reading: Upon contact, the system beeps and displays the hardness value. Keep the device stable to ensure accurate results.

  4. Reset: Release the switch to return the needle to its starting position.

  5. Auto Power Off: After 20 seconds of inactivity, the device will shut down automatically to conserve energy.

Indicator Lights:

  • Red (Left): Power-on/indenter lowering

  • Blue (Right): Active measurement

  • Red (Right): Indenter return
