Mitech MW-B75 Webster Hardness Tester

Product Overview

The Mitech MW-B75 is a handheld Webster hardness tester designed specifically for aluminum and soft alloy materials. Part of Mitech’s MW series, it offers fast, non-destructive hardness testing (NDT) without the need for sample cutting or preparation. Its clamp-style, one-hand operation makes it particularly well-suited for fieldwork, production lines, and quality inspection departments.

This device is commonly used in industries related to aluminum processing, including window, door, and curtain wall manufacturing, as well as engineering quality control and acceptance inspections. It’s a vital tool for increasing production efficiency and reducing inspection costs.

Functions & Applications

  • Determine whether a workpiece has been heat-treated

  • Identify improper alloy compositions

  • Test long or heavy components not easily moved

  • Conduct on-site inspections at aluminum manufacturing plants

  • Verify product quality in construction-related industries (windows, doors, curtain walls)

Working Principle

The MW-B75 operates on the indentation principle: the depth of the indenter’s mark is inversely proportional to the hardness of the material. The measured hardness (Webster Hardness or HW) is read directly from the analog dial.

  • Values range from 0 to 20 HW

  • Readings above range: pointer moves to 20

  • Readings below range: pointer remains at 0

Results can be converted into other standard hardness values such as HV or HR using conversion charts.

Instrument Features

  • Corrosion-resistant and impact-tested: Maintains precision after 4 hours in 5% saltwater and 100 drop tests from 0.5 meters

  • Compact and lightweight: Easily operated with one hand for fast, on-the-spot hardness checks

  • Non-destructive testing: No need for sample extraction

  • Easy to operate: No specialized training required, ideal for routine production environments

  • Versatile measurement: Suitable for a wide variety of aluminum shapes and sizes

  • Equipped with calibration blocks: Allows quick recalibration if needed

  • Separate display and handle: Ensures reading visibility is not blocked during testing

Operating Instructions & Precautions

  1. Insert the specimen between the anvil and the indenter.

  2. Press down the handle until the end of travel is felt—this is the correct pressure point.

  3. The dial will then indicate the hardness value. Excessive force is not necessary and does not damage the instrument.

  4. Keep the handle steady while reading the result.

  5. Avoid any twisting or shifting of the sample during the reading process, as it may cause inaccurate results.
