How It Works

The ultrasonic flaw detector operates on the principle of ultrasonic pulse reflection. When a flaw or defect is present in a material, the interface between different mediums causes a change in acoustic resistance. The ultrasonic pulse encounters the defect and is reflected back. The probe detects these reflected waves, and the device displays the defect’s position, depth, and shape in real-time.

Applications

The Mitech MFD350B is widely used in industries that require high-precision quality control and structural integrity testing, including:

  • Manufacturing & Metal Processing – Detects internal defects in fabricated metal components.
  • Aerospace & Automotive – Ensures structural integrity of critical parts such as axles and shafts.
  • Oil & Gas – Inspects pipelines, pressure vessels, and storage tanks.
  • Construction & Infrastructure – Evaluates weld quality in buildings and bridges.
  • Power & Energy – Used in turbine blade inspection and maintenance.

Operating Method

  1. Connect the probe to the instrument using the probe cable.
  2. Turn on the device and select the appropriate detection channel.
  3. Calibrate the probe:
    • Straight Probe: P-Delay
    • Angle Probe: P-Delay, X-Value, Angle
  4. Set AVG/DAC curve based on the selected probe type.
  5. Adjust detection settings as needed.
  6. Perform flaw detection on the workpiece.
  7. Record and analyze the flaw signals.
  8. Power off the device after use.

Safety & Maintenance Guidelines

Proper Handling
  • Avoid pressing buttons too hard to extend keypad life.
  • Keep the instrument clean and dry after use.
