DURAN 212834454 — Baffled Flask 500 mL
The DURAN 212834454 is a 500 mL baffled flask, made of DURAN borosilicate glass (Type I / neutral glass), designed for enhanced aeration and turbulence in shaken or stirred culture applications. Its key design features include four bottom baffles, which disrupt laminar flow and increase turbulent mixing, thereby expanding the liquid-gas interface and improving oxygen transfer compared to standard Erlenmeyer flasks.
The flask uses a GL 45 thread neck, and comes complete with a membrane screw cap to allow gas exchange, while maintaining a degree of containment. The wall thickness is increased compared to standard flasks to provide greater mechanical stability and durability under repeated use.
Other physical dimensions: base diameter approx. 105 mm, neck diameter approx. 30 mm, and height approx. 180 mm. It is non-sterile when supplied.

Applications & Benefits
Enhanced oxygen transfer in microbiological culture, cell culture, or similar applications, especially under orbital shaking, due to baffles.
Better mixing and aeration compared to plain-bottom flasks.
The membrane screw cap allows some containment while still permitting gas exchange, which is useful where sterile or semi-sterile conditions are needed.
Durable design with thick walls helps resist breakage in daily lab use.
Limitations & Handling Notes
The flask is supplied non-sterile, so sterilization required for sterile use.
Graduations (if any) are approximate — not for precision measurement.
Although robust, glass flasks still require careful handling; avoid thermal shock and mechanical impact.
Membrane caps have limitations in terms of max temperature, durability, or gas permeability compared to open culture systems.
