Mitech XXH-1605 Portable X-Ray Flaw Detector

Product Overview

The Mitech XXH-1605 is a portable inflatable X-ray generator designed for non-destructive testing (NDT) of internal defects in metal and composite materials. It operates on the principle of differential absorption, detecting flaws by measuring variations in X-ray penetration across materials of different thicknesses.

With a compact and lightweight build, this device is ideal for on-site inspections—even under harsh environmental conditions and at elevated locations. The system works with radiographic film to deliver clear and accurate images of internal flaws, which can be archived for long-term reference. It requires no special surface preparation and is minimally affected by the grain size of materials, making it highly versatile across various applications.

Its high resistance to interference, excellent stability, and user-friendly interface make the XXH-1605 the preferred solution for critical NDT tasks across industries such as shipbuilding, aviation, railways, pressure vessel manufacturing, oil and gas, chemical processing, and national defense.

Applications

  • Shipbuilding and offshore structures

  • Aerospace and aviation components

  • Railway maintenance and inspection

  • Pressure vessels and pipeline systems

  • Boilers and high-pressure tanks

  • Oil and gas infrastructure

  • Heavy machinery and industrial manufacturing

  • National defense and military engineering

Working Principle

The XXH-1605 generates X-rays by accelerating electrons toward a metal anode within a vacuum X-ray tube. As electrons collide with the anode, X-rays are emitted and directed through the test object. The varying absorption of X-rays by the object’s internal features results in different exposures on a special silver-halide-coated X-ray film.

This radiographic film, after developing and fixing, reveals a visual representation of internal defects. Darker areas on the film indicate regions where X-rays penetrated more deeply (i.e., fewer internal obstructions), while lighter areas suggest denser material or flaws. By interpreting these contrasts, operators can determine the size, type, and location of internal flaws such as cracks, voids, and inclusions.

The system uses a silicon-controlled single-phase rectifier to convert AC voltage into DC, followed by frequency modulation through a chopper circuit. The modulated signal powers a high-voltage pulse transformer, producing voltages from tens to hundreds of kilovolts, ensuring efficient and stable X-ray generation.

Operating Conditions

  • Ambient Temperature: -25°C to 40°C

  • Relative Humidity: ≤ 85%

  • Safe Working Pressure: 0.35 – 0.50 MPa
Do not operate below 0.35 MPa air pressure.

Key Features

  • Microcomputer-controlled system with a compact and aesthetic design

  • Lightweight structure optimized for field and high-altitude inspections

  • Over-temperature protection: automatic shutdown of high-voltage to prevent damage

  • Stable mA unit dynamically adjusts filament voltage and pulse frequency

  • Continuously adjustable kV unit supports inspection of various materials

  • Anti-interference circuitry minimizes electrical noise and system instability

  • Real-time error and fault code display for easy troubleshooting

  • Balanced 1:1 work-to-rest cycle for consistent performance and cooling

  • Delayed high-voltage start enables operators to exit hazardous zones safely

  • Electrical isolation between high-voltage and control systems ensures safety

  • Operates effectively with generator-based or unstable power supplies

Operating Instructions

  1. Startup: Power on the generator. The fan and digital display activate, and the system enters standby mode after 15 seconds.

  2. Exposure Setup: Set the required exposure time using the control knob.

  3. Warm-Up: Preheat the tube to improve vacuum quality. Failure to do so may damage the X-ray tube.

  4. Voltage Adjustment: Set the required tube voltage (kV).

  5. Exposure: Press the “HV” button to initiate X-ray generation. The system automatically counts down and shuts off once the exposure is complete.

  6. Rest Period: After exposure, the system enters a cooling/rest phase before the next cycle.

  7. Delayed Start: Hold the “HV” button for 3 seconds to enter delay mode. Delay time is adjustable from 0.1 to 5 minutes.

  8. Cancel Delay: Cancel by either restarting the device or pressing the “HV” button again until the display shows “00”.

Safety Notes

  • Ensure proper X-ray shielding or maintain a 20-meter exclusion zone around the generator during operation if shielding is not available.

  • Always check air pressure before use (must be ≥ 0.35 MPa).

  • Ground the controller securely to prevent electrical hazards.

  • Keep all connections clean and secure.

  • Do not disconnect power during cooling periods to maintain fan operation.

  • Voltage fluctuations may trigger protective shutdown—this is normal and not a system fault.
