Important Usage Notes

    For pipes larger than 4 inches in diameter, align the transducer gap perpendicular to the pipe axis. For smaller pipes, take two readings—parallel and perpendicular—and use the smaller value.

  • High-Temperature Surfaces:
    Sound velocity decreases with temperature. Calibrate using a sample at similar temperature, and use high-temperature transducers as needed.

  • Laminated Materials:
    Always calibrate to the specific material batch. Be aware that air gaps within laminates can create misleading low thickness values.

  • Couplants:
    Use a coupling medium such as water, oil, glycol, or gel to ensure proper sound transmission. For high-temperature surfaces, use specialized high-temp couplants.

  • Measurement Accuracy:
    Improper probe handling or material variation can lead to incorrect readings, including false double thickness from echo misinterpretation. Users must verify accuracy in critical measurements.
