Working Principle
The MT600 uses ultrasonic pulse technology to measure thickness by emitting a high-frequency sound wave through the material. The sound wave reflects off the back surface of the object and returns to the transducer. The device calculates the thickness using the formula:
H = (V × T) / 2
Where:

- V = Sound velocity in the material
- T = Round-trip transit time of the sound wave
The Echo-Echo mode eliminates coating thickness from the measurement, allowing accurate readings of the base material.
Measurement Considerations
Pipe & Tubing Thickness Measurement:
- For pipes larger than 4 inches in diameter, position the transducer perpendicular to the pipe axis.
- For smaller pipes, take measurements in both perpendicular and parallel orientations and use the smaller value.
Hot Surface Measurement:
- Sound velocity decreases at high temperatures.
- For surfaces above 100℃, calibrate the gauge using a sample at a similar temperature.
- Use a high-temperature transducer and minimize probe contact time.
Laminated Materials Measurement:
- Sound velocity varies across laminated surfaces.
- Calibrate using a sample from the same batch for accurate results.
- Air gaps in laminates may cause premature reflections, affecting accuracy.
Material Suitability:
- Works well with metals, plastics, ceramics, and glass.
- Less effective for cast materials, concrete, wood, fiberglass, and rubber.
Couplant Usage:
- A couplant is required to ensure proper sound transmission.

Pulse-Echo Mode Consideration:
